This latest rise in flows and continued cool down should kick off better brown trout migrations in the Oak setting up good drifting chances into November and maybe into December with reasonable weather hanging in. Next be prepared to troll j-plugs around the 3 piers in 5-20 feet of water. Scattered fish movement reported, that hoped for cool down would likely encourage more smaller trib movement. Theres some brisk NE lakeshore winds that will make for some rough seas and cool and probably dirty water color. Reports from the rest of the downstream water or other area smaller tribs are thin thanks to the light fishing pressure. The Lake Ontario Counties spring trout and salmon derby is approaching its final weekend and a new $15,000 Grand Prize leader has emerged this week as Ken Champagne of Ohio caught a 25-pound, 8-ounce Niagara Bar king salmon on a flasher-fly, besting Jeff Smith of New Brighton, Pa. who had taken the early lead on the first day of the contest May 7. Those fish are there somewhere and its likely not in the same old downstream water but probably upstream nearer where Kings are concentrated. Sandy Creek has been the most consistent brown trout action so thats where most of the fishing pressure has been. Cover lots of water and get the drift down and slow and you could find a chromer! The bend in the rod didnt feel like an average steelhead and we were thinking a decent king salmon was on the line.
